Introduction

The GeoInteractive Baseline Assessment website provides a set of four online geography assessments for students starting in Key Stage 3. They are designed to assess what students already know, understand and can do in geography.

The Baseline Assessments have been around in booklet form for several years and are currently being successfully used by several hundred schools in England and Wales. The booklet is still available if you wish to purchase it (click HERE for details). Over the years many people have asked for an online version and this has now been made available. The online version is designed to save you a huge amount of time in marking these baseline assessments and to provide you with detailed analysis to aid 'assessment for learning'.

How does the online system work?

The online geography assessments are created by GeoInteractive and then hosted by an external company. Once you have subscribed, a bank of specific geography assessments are allocated to your school account. These assessments can then be accessed by your students at any time convenient to you. Once a class or year group has taken the assessment, they are marked and the results processed by GeoInteractive. The detailed raw results data and a comprehensive summary of the results are then e-mailed to the contact person at the subscribing school. Results are given for the year group, for classes and for individual students. Levels can be provided if required (see order form).

Quote: "It will be a definite plus to test students immediately upon entry to Y7 to work out where the 'gaps' are and to see whether these vary from year to year in terms of feeder schools." [Joanne Edgar, Chasetown Specialist Sports College - one of the first schools to test the online system]
